Filigree Ceramic Lamp Base

This lamp base takes blue pottery's filigree-style painted surface and adapts it to a functional lighting fixture, hand-thrown and hand-painted before glaze-firing the same way the region's vases and plates are made. The openwork and floral detailing are designed so lamplight filters through the ceramic in soft patterns rather than a flat glow. It's a newer application of an old craft — proof that the technique travels well beyond the vases and plates it's traditionally known for.
